Vansleep Pitch — Music Video / Rip-O-Matic
Directed and Edited by Daniel Luke Ross
For my final project at university, we were tasked with creating either a music video for a local band or producing a Rip-O-Matic for a prospective client. This brief offered an opportunity to apply the skills I had developed throughout my degree in a practical, creative context, balancing artistic vision with client-focused objectives.
Rip-O-Matic -
“A very rough rendition of a proposed ad composed of images and sounds borrowed (ripped-off) from other commercials or broadcast materials.”
Although I initially approached local band Vansleep to collaborate on a music video for their track Well, You Disappoint Me Boy, the band declined due to an upcoming shift in their artistic direction, which was announced the following year.
Instead, I created this Rip-O-Matic as a conceptual pitch for their music video. Drawing on a variety of film and television references, my vision told the story of a couple whose once-strong relationship gradually unravels over time.
The proposed music video was designed to be performed like a stage play, filmed in a single continuous take. It would feature seamless costume and set changes to visually depict the passage of time and their evolving emotional state.
